RAP 'N ROLL
Gouache on 300# watercolor paper, 30 x 22 in., 1992
There are 3 musicians: a rapper, guitar player and keyboard player.
They are joined by black dashes. These are fingers holding a microphone/frets on a guitar, fingers strumming guitar and piano keys, respectively. They are also dominoes. Dominoes signify setting up that which we can control in our lives.
When one domino tips, the rest follow. The spots on the right are domino dots, going all over the place. This demonstrates "going with the flow", allowing the force of destiny to control that which we cannot. To make a point, the image of the rapper on the left was made by throwing paint at the paper.
Double images: The rapper's hand and guitar frets are the same 3 dashes; the rapper's foot is also a mouth. The keyboard player's fingers are also spots on dominoes.
