Acrylic and newspaper on canvas with photo of bird, 2011
This piece makes a statement about death/afterlife. The bust of a woman is created out of an obituary page and photos from the newspaper; the mouth on the figure is a photo I captured of a dead bird on the sidewalk.
The figure’s neck shows death as horror (a newspaper photo of a bloody dead alligator). This image is followed by a newspaper clip of a woman with a rose standing over a child’s coffin.
On the bottom of the piece are two people in a row boat at peace with the setting sun.
